Vicente de Lara Park

Vicente de Lara Park (McArthur Park) is a popular jogging and zumba area during early in the morning situated in front of the Provincial Capitol of Misamis Oriental building with age-old mahogany trees that provide a therapeutic canopy for the promenades.

The Park is located in front of the provincial capitol building, the seat of the government of Misamis Oriental. Although it is inside Cagayan de Oro, the park is owned and administered by the province of Misamis Oriental. Old nara, mahogany and other hardwood trees are the park’s main sight. Those trees provide pleasant atmosphere to people who have official dealings in the capitol, to visitors and to other people who want a respite from the sweltering heat of the sun especially in summer days. The park also serves as an ideal place to stroll in the evening, to jog, to do other physical exercises especially in the early morning or to pass the time while enjoying the park’s amenities  such as the low concrete benches and the shade that is provided by trees.

A Press Freedom Monument and the Heritage Monument of Misamis Oriental designed by national artist Eduardo Castrillo can also be found in this park. Since its completion, the area at the monument has become the venue for the press people to redress their grievances against the killing of journalists, the curtailment of press freedom and the other significant issues that are of public interest. Some major current issues that the press people of Cagayan de Oro actively protested at the Press Freedom Monument are the Ampatuan Massacre and the Anti-Cybercrime Law.

Mary Rose Grand Carnival - Cagayan de Oro City

It’s already August which means fiesta is just right in the corner and by tradition, Cagayan de Oro City’s fiesta will never be complete without the annual carnival. The Mary Rose Grand Carnival near Limketkai Center once again offers fun, entertainment and thrill rides for the public. Kagay-anons and tourists can now enjoy their exciting rides.

They offer rides such as the Kagayanon's favorite the famous "Sea Dragon". My experience riding the Sea Dragon was so much fun. This ride will swing you back and forth, subjecting the rider to various levels of angular momentum. Don't worry about your safety because the ride has a steel bar which locks you and for you to hold on.

They also offer rides such as roller coasters, bumper cars and their version of the Ferris wheel. Their Ferris wheel is different to other Ferris wheel because the this ride should be a slow pace ride and great for couples who wanted a good time, but this ride will make you feel dizzy because this ride is soooooo fast.

Mary Rose Grand Carnival also have a new ride which is the "UFO&DBC". This ride is similar as the Sea Dragon but the passengers will sit in a circular way. This will swing you back and forth as you rotate in a fast pace. This ride is safe because you will sit on a chair and will lock you on bars and you can also hold on to it.

They also have various types of stalls, so if your hungry or thirsty you can go to the nearest stall to buy food or drinks. It is also very affordable.
Bring your family and friends for the various games and rides at the carnival which is open daily from 5pm to 12 midnight.
