Juicy Watermelon at Grand Bay Alabama

My husband loves to indulge in enjoyable recollection of his memorable childhood. He mentioned that when he was young, a peddler of fruits would go by his neighborhood shouting "Grand Bay Watermelon" and he will always remember the yell that sounded like a song to his ears LOL. Summer time in Mississippi is fun with so many festivities. I also remember that hubby and I would go to the back road from Ocean Springs Mississippi to Grand Bay Alabama just to buy watermelon and other fruits. We bought huge and juicy watermelons and it was my first time to see a yellow watermelon. One time, my sister in law was with us and she bought fruits and vegetables. Do you like watermelon?

Yellow Watermelon

I was just browsing my album and saw this yellow watermelon that we buy at Greenbay, Alabama last Summer. Too bad that it's not the season of watermelon anymore. I tried to keep some seeds of these fruit though hoping I can grow this summer. Our garden last summer has 2 green watermelon but, before the harvest, an animal harvest and ate it. Wheww!
Actually, I was really amazed seeing a yellow watermelon and it was so sweet. I only knew red ones that is why, I couldn't believe when I sliced the fruit and saw this.

Watermelon and Cantaloupe

Summer here in Mississippi is too humid, steamy hot, muggy, scorching and blistering. I can use these words over and over again to justify that the warm weather here is like the HOLY WEEK weather in the Philippines. That is why on this day, we are in the mood of buying watermelon fresh from the farm. We found this farm in Grand Bay, Alabama which is famous with water melon farm land. We travel about 30 minutes just to find this place.
the farm
this cost $5 to $10 each
I really do not know which is sweeter but, we just bought 2 varieties.
The location of this area is along the busy street so, people are stopping to buy for family consumption and buy loads to resale them.
We were able to buy worth $9 for two big water melons and three cantaloupe. That is a good deal for me.
When we sliced the water melon, we were amazed to see a Yellow variety which they call Yellow Crimson Watermelon. That was my first time to see a yellow flesh and I was so amazed.
This cantaloupe is 3 for $5 and my sister in law bought 3 and a basket of peaches which was $12.
What is summer without these thirst-quenching fruits right?
According to Wikipedia, there are more than 1200 varieties of watermelon with flesh that are red, white, yellow and orange. I have no idea that there are yellow flesh, i thought all watermelons are red. Now, white and orange? Hmmm...got to find them. For watermelon health benefit, click this link.{HERE}.
